Buyer
Founded in 1992, Europlasma is a French group active in defense, the environment, and industrial decarbonization. It operates through three divisions: industrial manufacturing (hollow bodies, anodized aluminum), pollution control (asbestos, ash, etc.), and the production of substitute fuel from waste. Listed on Euronext Growth™, the group works toward industrial and ecological sovereignty.
Seller and Client
Founded in 1965 in Caudan (near Lorient), Fonderie de Bretagne produces high-quality cast iron foundry parts (40,000 tons/year) for various industrial sectors. Its 300 employees possess recognized expertise, particularly in safety components.
Context and Objectives
Fonderie de Bretagne (FDB) is being taken over by the Europlasma Group as of May 1, 2025.
By decision of the Rennes Commercial Court, Europlasma’s takeover bid for FDB becomes effective on May 1. This operation saves 266 jobs (93% of the workforce) and restarts industrial activity at the Caudan site (Lorient, Morbihan).
The takeover ensures the continuity of local foundry expertise, which was previously dedicated to the automotive industry, and now directs the site toward new markets, particularly defense, with the production of hollow bodies for mortar shells. This new activity will offset the decline in automotive volumes.
Europlasma, a French group positioned in strategic industrial sectors such as defense and hazardous waste management, has integrated this operation into a strategy of industrial sovereignty and energy transition. This integration will provide Europlasma with new capabilities and skills in the manufacturing of complex metal parts.
Despite recent investments (modernization, commercial guarantees, aid from Renault), FDB faced severe difficulties and entered receivership in January 2025.
Two buyers submitted bids: SEKCO and Europlasma, whose proposal was selected by the court.
Europlasma’s Strategic Industrial Project
Europlasma’s recovery plan is based on four pillars:
- Diversification into new clients and markets outside the automotive sector,
- Modernization of production tools,
- Reduction of energy consumption through the installation of renewable energy,
- Continuous improvement of industrial processes.
This project is supported by:
- €25.8M from Renault to support diversification;
- Up to €18.8M in public aid, including €7M from the Economic and Social Development Fund, supported by the Brittany Region and Lorient Agglomération;
- €15M in equity investments from Europlasma, spread over 3 years
